 Where is Santa Teresa?

 

 

Playa Santa Teresa is located on the Nicoya peninsula, the Puntarenas Province of Costa Rica.

 

Where are the best swimming beaches there?  

Santa Teresa is one of Costa Rica's most beautiful white/gold sand beaches. There are many swimmer friendly beach's. Just beware of large waves and rip currents. Most beaches are sand but ask the locals where are the rocky/reef areas are. There are tide pools and special snorkeling areas too. See our activities page for more details.

 

What are my options for traveling to Santa Teresa from San Jose? 

There are three options. Bus, taxi shuttle or flight (small plane). There is a public bus that takes you directly there (12$). The transfer taxis leave in the morning and arrive mid day (50$). The flights fly every few hrs to Tabor (100$).

 

 What should I pack?

Passport is required to enter the country. US citizens have 90 days to stay in Costa Rica. If you leave the country for 72 hrs you can return to Costa Rica for a another 90 days. Make a copy of your picture/stamp once you arrive. 


It is legal to carry your photo copy instead of your original passport. Keep your passport in a safe place and have your copy ready if you are driving a car. 

Sunscreen is a must. Good sunglasses and a hat for sun protection. Strong non slip flip flops. Good swim suits and T shirts. No jeans or long sleeves are needed. First Aid kit and bug spray. A small flashlight comes in handy in many situations. Pack light because its hot.  Bring your favorite music and books to help pass the time.
 

 

 

How is the weather according to the seasons?

The ocean and air temp is around 80 degrees all year long. No wetsuit is required.

It is great to visit any month of the year. The sunniest weather is from Nov - May. Not much rain during those months. It can be dusty but very sunny. June - Oct are the rainiest months of year. The plants are really green and the temp drops a few degrees. New years and Easter are the busiest times of the year.

 


Is it easy to access a bank/ATM in ST?

 

There are two banks at the crossroads (beginning of town). They have ATM machines but sometimes they run out of money. It is a good idea to bring some cash. Credit cards work at some restaurants and grocery stores.

Costa Rica accept 's american dollars, but try not to bring 50's and 100's.

It is hard to get change if you are not spending the full amount.

Bring 20's and a credit/debit card to be safe. If a store, hotel or restaurant take credit cards, it will be a Visa or Master Card.

You can exchange money at the airport and bank.

Do I need vaccinations to visit Costa Rica?

 

No, but it wouldn't hurt to get the basic shots. If you are going deep into the rain forest then maybe it would be a good idea to get certain shots. Most areas are safe and there are pharmacies if you need medication.

 


What kind of license do I need to rent a vehicle?

 

A US drivers license is needed to rent a car. Most rental agencies charge around 1500 $ hold on a credit card. Make sure you have a credit card to rent a car.

 

 

Is there nightlife in ST?

 

Yes there are several bars that provide a fun nightlife. Different nights have different music themes. Reggae, Rock Techno and Hip Hop. There are DJ's and live groups scheduled events too.

 

 

What cultural things like tipping etiquette do I need to be aware of? 

 

Most restaurants add the 10% tip. It is always better to ask if your confused about the bill.

Driving is aggressive, so be alert at all times. The roads are can have bad lighting and pot holes. 

Be careful of theft because crime is high in Central America.

Basically, be friendly and smile and you will make many friends. Ticos are Trujillo (relaxed).
